Don't Be Fooled Because We Are a Credit Union. You'll Make an Impact Working on Highly Complex, Often Brokered Commercial Real Estate Deals

If you combine extensive business or commercial loan underwriting experience with outstanding communication skills and the ability to work effectively on a small, high-performing team, the role of Business Loan Underwriter III with UNIFY Financial Credit Union offers you a number of compelling opportunities. Consider:
  • You will have the opportunity to stretch your skills as you work on a variety of complex, layered loans, evaluating risk and making creditworthiness decisions.
  • Commercial real estate finance is a key growth area at Unify. You can help promote that growth and will enjoy visibility in your work.
  • Play a key role on a small team where you can make a strong impact, and as we move into C&I and SBA loans next year, your skills will be in even greater demand.
  • Enjoy a unique, positive culture. As a credit union, we answer to members rather than shareholders, which means we take the time necessary to provide members with exceptional service. That commitment to service is prevalent with internal and external interactions. If you're tired of the high-stress banking environment, you'll find Unify a great place to work.
Currently, the team is working remotely. We expect that to continue, though, depending upon where you live, you may come into an office on occasion. The ideal candidate will live in or near Dallas Fort Worth, TX, Las Vegas, NV, Phoenix, Arizona or Irvine, CA.

UNIFY Financial Credit Union is one of the LARGEST 100 credit unions in the U.S. With $2.9 billion in assets, branches nationwide coast-to-coast, and close to 250,000 account holders, we've earned a reputation for being financially sound and growth-oriented. We're continuing to rapidly expand to meet the needs of a growing member base.

Reporting to the Credit Administration Manager, as Business Loan Underwriter III, you will be responsible for making credit worthy decisions on complex commercial transactions to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with the company guidelines and standards. You will apply advanced expertise in the accurate and thorough evaluation of commercial loans.

More specifically, you will:
  • Evaluate loan applications by employing an extensive knowledge of cash flow analysis, ratio analysis, and projections, as well as commercial loan structuring and documentation, commercial real estate appraisal techniques, field audit examination techniques, and Credit Union regulations governing commercial banking, to ensure accurate underwriting.
  • Conduct an in-depth review of balance sheets, income statements and tax returns, and business plans and projections presented by applicants to assess their ability to generate income sufficient to repay existing and proposed debt.
  • Prepare a written summary of loan terms and conditions and a written narrative explaining the business background, outlining risk factors and justifying assigned risk rating, and ensuring conformity with credit union credit policy and procedures, and with applicable Credit Union regulations.
  • Coordinate with Loan Processing/Closing department and outside counsel, as needed, in the preparation, review and approval of loan documentation.
  • Collaborate with Business Bankers on the reasoning for a particular decision, answering potential loan request questions, and identifying/resolving potential problem loans.
  • Identify risks and assist in structuring the loan to mitigate risks. Assign loan risk ratings.
  • Provide documentation for any exceptions to established guidelines and critical account information relating to the final underwriting decision. When necessary, recommend alternate credit structures or products that eliminate the policy exception and protect the Credit Union’s interests.

UNIFY provides a work environment that promotes learning, growth, and the opportunity for team members to challenge themselves.

Growth and stability
While most credit unions operate in just one state, UNIFY has branches in 18 states, and we continue to open new ones. Our success is based in part on a diversified model; for example, in addition to operating stand-alone branches, we also operate branches in partnership with big-name companies like Toyota and Northrup Grumman.

Fun and caring group
Our service-based, values-driven culture attracts those who enjoy helping and connecting with others. That carries over in everything we do, from providing outstanding service to truly listening to our members and suggesting the products that best fit their unique situations to interacting effectively with one another. It's not unusual for team members to form friendships and engage in interesting activities inside and outside of work.

Commitment to community
Giving back to the community isn't just something we say, it's something we do. Our programs support both educational and charitable activities. We care about making our communities and members stronger while providing our UNIFY team members opportunities to give back. An example is our participation with the Patricia R. Dempster Scholarship Fund which provides scholarship awards to worthy, college-bound high school seniors
